WILL COVID-19 BE OUR LABREA TAR PITS?

The name "LaBrea Tar Pits" brings to mind images of ancient creatures meeting their fates, sinking into soft pools of mud they had mistaken for sources of drinking water.

Once an unfortunate beast had wandered into this mire -- that may have appeared to be an ordinary pool of water -- there was no escape.  

Is that what we are heading for with this novel and quickly mutating viral epidemic, Corona Virus Disease? 

Will COVID-19 and other mutations of the Corona Virus be our generation's LaBrea Tar Pits??
